Straw marquetry technique
Marquetry is an ancient technique of inlay on wood. Initially, only pieces of wood veneer were used, and later also straw. Known that straw was firstly used in the East, later in the 17th century, this craft came to England.
Straw is a very traditional and understandable material for Ukraine. Since RUDA Studio researches folk artisans' techniques of our country of origin, we decided to bring traditional marquetry to contemporary use. Combining functionality with aesthetics, we propose to consider straw as a unique material for exclusive objects.
